JUNE 02, 2009
Volume 3, issue 03

Welcome to our Travel Report as we feature this months start to the summer fishing in Beautiful British Columbia’s own back yard Prince Rupert.

Some of the Greatest Sport fishing is to be had in the Hecate Strait from the B.C. Queen Charlottes, which is influenced by strong ocean winds. Roughly 800 KM north of Vancouver B.C., by airplane lies the northern most point in Prince Rupert to access Pacific Salmon in Canada.

Summer fishing is influenced by the presence of eulachon and 6” hearing, Thus bait is the most common fishing lure.

At Canada’s Northern most point fishing locale, Prince Rupert, receives runs directly from the ocean en route to the Skeena ( World famous for its Steelhead up to 43 pounds) and Nass rivers.

All five species of Salmon may be caught in Prince Rupert. Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, & Chum. The latter four species appear only as mature animals in the summer months en-route to spawning beds.

Chinook present themselves as either large resident winter or migrating summer fish.
Winter feeder Chinook fishing peaks in December & January with fishing averaging 10-15 pounds. A healthy portion of Large feeders in the 18-22 pound range is in the mix, making Prince Rupert a good Winter Bet for Large Fish!!

Late June brings the run of Salmon looking to spawn as they travel up the river through Prince Rupert, Skeena Chinook averaging 20-30 pounds are around until the end of July.

Large Sockeye posses tremendous fighting ability and are intermingled with Coho averaging 3-5 pounds, arrive July 15th and gorge on bait stocks until Aug 30.
